2.02.001 - Duties the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Tribal Police Department’s chief officer, “Chief of Police”

The Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Tribal Council hereby establishes the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians Tribal Police Department with its chief officer, “Chief of Police,” delegated the ultimate responsibility for command over the Tribal Police Department’s personnel and operations. All policies and procedures for the hiring of the Department’s personnel and for the day-to-day operations will be reviewed and approved by Tribal Council. Tribal Council will appoint a Chief of Police upon such terms and conditions of employment as they shall direct. The Chief of Police, with the approval of Tribal Council, shall establish such ranks and appoint and commission officers to serve the Tribe as deemed necessary for the enforcement of ordinances to maintain tribal culture, customs and traditions; to protect all people, lands and resources within the Tribe’s jurisdiction; to administer justice; and to promote equality, freedom, self sufficiency, and quality of life; and otherwise to safeguard and promote the peace, safety, morals, and general welfare of the Tribe.
